What's New at WMS?

WESTFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL

“What’s New at WMS

We are very excited about our new school structure. This allows all grade 7 and grade 8 students the opportunity to attend school together. It will also provide a more consistent transition to the high school and allow us to create a more “guaranteed and viable” curriculum for all students at each grade level throughout Westfield.

Our new “Program of Studies” allows for all students to grow academically through their five core academic offerings. In addition, the expansion of our World Language (Spanish) Program will accommodate more than 400 students, an 800% increase over the previous practice. Our block that guarantees all students health education, physical education, and computer education is contemporary and valuable. This block serves to guarantee that state mandates in these areas are fulfilled.

We continue to move our “Inclusion Initiative” forward. This inclusion mindset will improve education for all students. In addition, having a Special Education Inclusion teacher as part of each team will help to further this initiative.

We have added a full time Library Media Specialist to our Middle School. Our certified librarian will provide support for teachers and increased educational opportunities for all students at WMS.

We are continuing our efforts to bring more available technology to our students and teachers. This year we are planning to bring an additional 200+ Chromebooks into our middle school. This will offer additional access to technology as we serve to enhance the educational experience for all students.

Our “Critical Friends Partnership” with area middle schools is a valuable professional development opportunity for our staff. We are expanding last year’s partnership with Agawam Junior High School to include 2-3 additional partners for this coming year.

Finally we are thankful for the numerous parents, staff, and students who came into our building this summer to help beautify the classrooms and common areas of our building. This was an important component for making our new middle school feel like a new school for all students. We genuinely appreciate all of the efforts of everyone!!
